Caverns and Caves

Armchair cavers" should start with a guided family tours like The Lost Sea off U.S. 68 near Sweetwater. Its the biggest cave attraction in the area, and listed by Guiness Book of World Records as the largest underground lake in the world. To get there, take Exit 60 off I-75 and follow U.S. 68 south six miles. Or, off State Hwy. 411 take the Sweetwater exit at Madisonville and follow U.S. 68 north four miles. Its open every day except Christmas.
Forbidden Caverns - near Sevierville, TN.
Tuckaleechee Caverns - Townsend, TN.
Cumberland Caverns - McMinnville, TN.

RAPPELLING and mountain climbing are also available in areas of eastern Tennessee for those with claustrophobia and a yen for vertical adventure.
